The Heat Is On: Finding A Preschool That’s Right For Your Child
It may be July, but we’re already thinking ahead to the rapidly approaching school year. Is it time to send your baby off to school? That’s a huge decision and one I respect, being a mom of three. Here are the three biggest lessons I’ve learned:
1. The most important thing about preschool is that your child acquires a love of learning. Some parents become focused on specific tasks or academics early on. Are they important? Sometimes. It depends on the child. But the important thing at this age is to learn that school is a place of fun, comfort, and friendship. The learning they do at this stage may not even be seen as “learning” in their eyes. I’ve been thrilled at CBS Preschool because that’s exactly what’s happened with my daughters. I love the light in my youngest child’s eyes when she sees her friends and runs off to play in the morning!
2. Your preschool aged child needs time with other adults and children. We love them and we, the parents, will always be a primary role model for them, but as time goes on they will have to interact with the world, *gasp* without us. It isn’t too early to set that precedent. The right preschool (yes, like CBS) offers a safe, comfortable environment where they learn more quickly than you can imagine how to interact with both other authority figures (teachers) and how to play alongside and then with their peers. This is a skill that helps them grow and something they will be used to and comfortable with when they get to Elementary.
3. Preschoolers soak up so much more than we alone can provide. We may not want to admit it but the truth is we can’t do it all. It’s healthy for my child to experience other types of individuals and perspectives. We hear all the time that the child is like a sponge. Let them soak up everything, not just what you have to give. They learn from each other, the teachers, and the experiences they are provided at a school setting like CBS.
