Military Surprise at James Foster Elementary
Sixth-grade graduate Devan Altmayer received a surprise like no other at his James Foster Elementary commencement ceremony on June 10 when his Airman First Class brother, Dylan Ryndak, surprised him with his homecoming. Devan’s mother Alana worked hard to keep the surprise a secret, and the payoff was immense.
“I’m just glad he got to be with us today,” she said.
After songs and speeches, each student made their way across the blacktop aided by a quote they had prerecorded. When it was Devan’s turn, “technical difficulties” occurred and his brother appeared. A tearful reunion ensued, with their younger brother Chris joining in a tight hug. They had not seen their brother in more than a year.
Two days later, Ryndak returned to Mountain Home, ID for another extended term for the U.S. Armed Forces.
James Foster Elementary School is part of the Saugus Union School District.
