Savor the Taste of Summer
The ocean-salted air, bright sunlight, and probably the most delicious part of the summer season, Barbecue! A must-have for the summer, maybe even more than that exotic vacation, is the casual trip to the park or the beach with family and friends to enjoy the atmosphere and sample “famous” barbecued baby back ribs. Romping through the park or sitting in the sands, a memory shared by everyone, varying stories of course, but the succulent charred smell and sense of family is universal. Keep in mind that knowing how to grill safely makes the memory as well. Along with keeping track of burgers and the cook time of the ribs, making that well-known (to the family) sauce and wondering why there has to always be that one person asking for a veggie burger; always keeps track of what’s around you at the grill to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Never add lighter fluid to already burning coals, they don’t need any help, and once the grill is lit it will come to temperature on its own time. The trick to great barbecue is patience.
Keep the grill uncovered until you’re ready to get cooking and once ready, keep the grill covered and the vents opened. This particularly when using charcoal or wood chips.
Gasoline, kerosene, and flammable liquids not designed for grilling should be left alone. Yes they do burn, and maybe they will make the grilling faster, but they’re also extremely dangerous and might make the party “pop” in a bad way.
Coals should be given a chance to burn out completely before disposal, give them at least 48 hours. You don’t want your trash container to melt.
A few quick tips to make that memorable family trip a happy one and ensure that your secret recipe is more well-known by your loved ones than the fire department. Happy grilling!
