SCV Celebrates Independence Day
Patriotism runs as strong as the spirit of volunteerism in Santa Clarita, and residents came out in droves to the Fourth of July Parade in Old Town Newhall. Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell served as Grand Marshal for the event, which was themed “Volunteering Makes Us Stronger,” in memory of the late Duane Harte. Events of the day included a pancake breakfast, 5K and 10K run-walk, parade, judging, awards ceremony and grand finale fireworks show. Dozens of community groups came out to support, and many ran patriotic and festive floats, as well.
