Back to School and Back On the Road Again!
The end of summer is winding down and fall will be here before we know it. For the majority of us in the summer we hit the road and go on vacation or do lots of day or weekend trips with our families. With back to school on the horizon it is time to check our car and be prepared for the fall season.
As in any season of the year it is best to always be prepared when it comes to your vehicle and its maintenance. For your fall car checklist these are some helpful things to do.
Check your oil level, add oil if necessary. It is usually best to perform an oil and lube job. Have your battery tested. Inspect the windshield wipers, be prepared for any storms like El Nino we have heard so much about! Have your windshield wiper reservoir filled with the proper type of windshield fluid. Evaluate your belts and hoses and see if there is any evidence of fraying, cracking or leaking and have them replaced if warranted. Consider getting a tune-up, especially if it’s been 30,000 miles or so since your last one! At the very least have a visual inspection of the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. If your tires look worn you do need to pay special attention to the tread of your tires. To check your tread all you need is a penny. Insert Lincoln’s head into the tread in a few different spots on each tire. If you can see the entire top of his head, your tread is less than 1/16 of an inch deep below the level where you can count on it for gripping the road and it should be replaced. When your tread is worn down to 2/32 of an inch then they must be replaced.
You and your family are important and at SCVAutoRepairs.com we will make sure your car is in working order. Our motto is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance!
