Dreaming of Yummy Fudge!
The summer months are finally waning and the cooler weather is on the horizon. We all look forward to the cooler, fall weather and with it comes many pleasurable events. We enjoy football games, falling leaves, pumpkin patches, the smell of cider, soups cooking in our homes and of course, the divine smell of candy! I’m sure we all have childhood memories of holidays or special events where your mom or grandmother made fudge.
A great candy to make in the fall is fudge… yum! If fudge is one of your favorite candies then you know, it is easy to make, the ingredients are inexpensive and you can tweak your recipe to any flavor your heart desires!
Fudge is technically speaking a crystalline confection. Meaning that you want sugar crystals to form when you make it.
So the basic step is you want to cook a sugar syrup to the soft-ball stage, letting it cool for a while, then stir and beat it until crystals form. That is what will make your fudge creamy in texture. If you start to stir it while it is too hot, your fudge will end up grainy, and grainy fudge is not good.
If your recipe calls for marshmallow or fluff, you don’t have to stir it like mad as it is more foolproof for the creaminess and body you want.
Of course, using the best ingredients, the better your fudge will be. There are so many additions to add to your fudge the list goes on from nuts, dried fruit, different flavored oils, from pumpkin fudge to peanut butter fudge the list is endless!
Maybe it’s time you start a tradition in your household and find a recipe you can make with or for your family. It really is easy and it requires no special equipment or ingredients and you would be making it with love.
The holidays will be here before you know so it’s time to sign-up for some sweet craft classes at Clarice’s, brush up on your decorating skills or learn some new ones. Check out our fall classes in the month of September with lots of sweet ideas using chocolate, cookies and mini cakes.
Our fudge recipe is super easy: one pound of compound coating which we sell in a variety of flavors and one can of condensed milk. Easy and delicious and it is done in minutes. Remember, we Bake with Love!
