Standard Orthodontics Versus Invisalign
Your teeth should last a lifetime and straight teeth that function well are part of a comprehensive dental health plan to maintain your teeth forever. Early Orthodontics in childhood make it easier to move teeth and guide the growth pattern of the jaws; resulting in fantastic treatment outcomes. A beautiful smile and a healthy bite benefit those who are over 60 as well as those in their teens. Even though adults aren’t growing they can still receive great results with orthodontics. Your age isn’t a factor in straightening your teeth. Healthy teeth can be straightened at any age.
There are many treatment options today. Standard orthodontics with bands and wire can be used to move teeth. Invisalign is a favorite of our patients due to the clear aligners, shorter treatment durations and reduced expense over standard orthodontics.
In their entirety, braces work by applying continuous pressure over a period of time to slowly move teeth in a specific direction. As the teeth move, the bone changes shape as pressure is applied. Standard orthodontics tends to be a longer treatment process as they move the teeth one by one. Invisalign is a great option for faster results as all the teeth are being moved at the same time.
Invisalign is an excellent option for mature teens and adults who are concerned about the appearance of their smile. The clear trays go unnoticed by most, whereas standard orthodontics even with clear rubber bands will be very noticeable. With Invisalign you wear each tray for 22 hours a day for 10 days before switching to the next movement tray. Typical treatment from start to finish is about one year whereas standard orthodontics is usually a two-year treatment. This can vary depending on the severity of the crowding. With both types of orthodontics, retainers must be worn every night to keep teeth from relapsing.
