Two Students Spearhead Memorial Projects
Along with the comforts we enjoy in our country comes a consciousness of the sacrifices made for us by those who serve. All across the Santa Clarita Valley, action has been taken to commemorate our soldiers at home and across the world. The Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program, for example, keeps the memory of those lost alive. Such drive to give notice and recognize the price of peace have not evaded our local youth, either.
Soon to be a senior at Saugus High School, Steven Plante hopes to erect a Wall of Honor to properly recognize alumni who serve in the armed forces. Through the crowd-funding site gofundme.com, his goal is to raise $15,000 to pay for necessary construction, and he aims to finish the wall by November 10 – just in time for Veterans Day!
It also appears that this young man’s actions have caught on as a group of West Ranch High School students also have recently expressed their desires to memorialize local military service members, law enforcement and firefighters. Student Rory Mita and some of his peers are raising funds to construct a commemorate wall, as well. Their project starts by first collecting names and donations before moving onto design and construction.
