A Bundle of Joy

Babies have a way of bringing joy and excitement to a household.  From the moment you discover a child is on the way, there is a growing excitement in your life, but also in the lives of those around you.  There is fresh expectation as you see the ultrasound and discover if the child is a boy or a girl.  After the child is born the stages of joy and excitement keep coming: the child starts sleeping through the night, they begin to walk, they go to school, they graduate, and after a few years they might even make you a grandparent.
Keeping a proper focus on the reason we celebrate this season will allow us to have perspective and maintain our joy.  Jesus has the ability to bring us a bundle of joy and it started in a little manger in the town of Bethlehem.  In the same way we have a sense of excitement waiting for a baby, don’t let the hustle and bustle of the season allow you to miss the joy that Jesus has already brought.  We can hear the words of Isaiah the Prophet who wrote, “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.  The government will rest on his shoulders.  And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  We live in a time that people are discouraged, troubled, lonely, and stressed but the child born to Mary and Joseph is able to give us relief.
What do you need this holiday season to bring you joy?  It won’t be in the shopping, the lights, or even the holiday parties we will attend this year.  Find joy and excitement in those little things that often bring joy to a child.  Being able to run, play, spending time with family, watching a favorite television show, and having a good laugh.  But most of all find joy in knowing a Savior that loved you even when you did not know Him.
