Canyon Theatre Guild’s Barry Agin Takes Valencia Family to Meet Scrooge
This holiday season, in a captivating adaptation of Charles Dickens a Christmas Carol at the Canyon Theatre Guild, a modern Valencia family travels back in time with Grandpa. The wise, older gentleman tells his demanding and difficult grandchildren a tale about a crotchety old miser from 19th century London who is visited by three spirits, in hopes that the message will turn his beloved grandchildren in the right direction before it’s too late. As they journey back in time with him, he transforms into… well you’ll just have to come see the play. Filled with all the spirited characters from the original story and the joy of discovery, the production sparkles with good cheer and delightful humor.
Mr. Barry Agin is the show’s fabulous director and has graced the CTG stage many times in shows like Around the World in 80 Days, The Sunshine Boys, Hairspray and many more. He started acting when living in Shanghai, China at 10 years old, encouraged by his mother, who had been an actress in the Yiddish Theatre there. At Ten, it fascinated him that children and adults were treated as equals in theatre, with a mutual respect. Mr. Agin keeps coming back to theatre because, “Acting in live theatre is always interesting because it’s terrifying. Anything can go wrong — and if it doesn’t, you feel a great sense of accomplishment in knowing that you’ve given the audience a great experience.” Of A Christmas Carol, Mr. Agin purports that this show is always fun for the family with a message that one can change at any time in life and with this adaptation, “No matter how many times they see it, this show is sure the leave the audience with a refreshingly renewed holiday spirit!”
A Christmas Carol opened Friday, November 25. Performances run throughout the holiday season on Fridays at 8 p.m. on December 9 and 16; Saturdays at 2 p.m. on December 10 and 17; Saturdays at 8 p.m. on December 3, 10, and 17; Sundays at 2 p.m. on December 4, 11, and 18; Sundays at 6 p.m. on December1 and weekdays at 7 p.m. on December 20 to 22.
