COC to Offer Classes at All Hart District High Schools
Starting in spring 2017, all William S. Hart Union High School District juniors and seniors will be able to enroll in a College of the Canyons course without having to leave their high school campus — or pay enrollment fees.
In an effort to help students jumpstart their college careers and cut tuition costs, College Now! — a program that allows 11th and 12th graders to enroll in COC courses — will be offered, for the first time, at all seven Hart District high schools.
“Participating in College Now! as a junior and senior in high school, maximizes the potential to earn a full academic year worth of college credit,” said Kari Soffa, director of Outreach and School Relations at the college. “Students can save up to $1,000 in community college tuition, $6,000 in California State University tuition or $13,000 in University of California tuition.”
The following courses, which will be taught by COC professors, will be available to College Now! students:
• Administration of Justice (Bowman)
• Anthropology 220 (Canyon)
• Communications Studies 105 (Golden Valley, Saugus, and West Ranch)
• Psychology 101 (Hart)
• Sociology 101 (Valencia)
The program confers students with concurrent enrollment status, which will allow students to enroll in any degree applicable coursework offered at the Valencia campus, Canyon Country campus or online.
To enroll in a College Now! course, students must submit a college application, complete an online orientation, and submit a College Now! form to the college’s Admissions & Records office. Registration for spring 2017 College Now! begins Thursday, Jan. 26.
