A Piggy Party
I’m imagining you have been to your fair share of birthday parties, especially if you have kids. You might have even been invited to a dog or cat’s birthday party. But have you ever been to a pig’s birthday party? Our pigs, Zeus and Bodhi, will be turning ten-years-old and we want to make them feel as special and as celebrated as we can. Please join us on April 23rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a piggy party with singing, cake, arts and crafts, and tummy rubs.
It’s a big deal that Zeus and Bodhi are turning ten. Pigs are genetically engineered to get very big, very fast, so they can be slaughtered at six months old. When we save them, they keep growing until they are three and by then they are usually so big that they cannot walk and have to be helped out of their bodies. At The Gentle Barn, we give them low-calorie nutrition, plenty of fresh, organic fruits and veggies, herbs, and chiropractic for sustained mobility. Even though Zeus is 750 pounds and Bodhi is 500 pounds, they have made it to the rare age of ten and we are thrilled!
They love tummy rubs, treats, and cuddling in the winter. In the summer, they enjoy blowing bubbles in their pool and staying up late, gazing at the stars. They are extremely intelligent and very gentle and have rolled over for tummy rubs for hundreds of thousands of visitors. Come celebrate their life with us.
The Gentle Barn is home to hundreds of animals rescued from abuse and neglect, and host to school field trips, private tours, birthday parties, and groups of at-risk, inner city, and special needs children. We are open to the public every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so you can hug the cows, cuddle the turkeys, give the pigs tummy rubs, and hear their stories of resilience.
