City Breaks Ground on Newhall Parking Structure
The Santa Clarita City Council hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction for the Old Town Newhall Parking Structure, located on the corner of Railroad Avenue and 9th Street.
Mayor Cameron Smyth, Mayor Pro Tem Laurene Weste, Councilmember Bob Kellar, Councilmember Marsha McLean and Councilmember Bill Miranda, City Manager Ken Striplin and community leaders were in attendance.
The Old Town Newhall Parking Structure will consist of 372 parking spaces on an existing 25,000-square-foot land at the corner of 9th Street and Railroad Avenue. Construction is expected to be complete by spring 2018.
The Old Town Newhall Parking Structure is one of three monumental projects planned for the City’s “Redevelopment Block,” located at the corner of Railroad Avenue and Lyons Avenue. Other projects along this block include a new two-story art house Laemmle Theatre and “Newhall Crossings,” a mixed-use project by the Serrano Development Group that will add 20,000 square feet of retail shops and restaurants along with 47 residential units with parking. These projects are efforts by the City and its partners to revitalize Old Town Newhall into a vibrant arts and entertainment destination.
