The SCV Education Foundation Presents “Celebrating Champions”

by | Mar 30, 2017 | Education

The 33rd annual Teacher Tribute presented by the SCV Education Foundation will take place on Tuesday, April 11 at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of College of the Canyons.  This year will encompass an Olympics-style theme as we “Celebrate Champions.”
Teacher Tribute is designed to promote a greater appreciation for public school teachers, and to honor those teachers for outstanding service and contributions in the classroom.  The selection process varies district by district, but there are several common themes that are important to the SCV Education Foundation.  Teachers are nominated by their peers, who seek to acknowledge the following attributes of the honorees:
• Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to grow professionally and to assist others to grow
• Inspires students and other teachers to achieve excellence
• Upholds exemplary professionalism
• Creates and maintains effective environments for student learning
• Engages and supports all students in learning
• Has a passion to help all children
The SCV Education Foundation started this annual event in 1984 when there were just three school districts.  Now there are five school districts and 54 public schools.  One teacher from each school will be honored.
“This annual event gives us the opportunity to recognize and reward the teachers in this Valley who go are truly champions in the classroom,” states Executive Director Jackie Hartmann.
The event will begin at 4:45 p.m. with a reception.  The program, which starts at 5:45 p.m., will give each of the five superintendents from Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Sulphur Springs and Hart school districts a chance to bring their teachers to the stage for a formal presentation.  Each teacher will receive a medal and a swag bag full of goodies donated from local merchants.
“In 1998, two of the current superintendents, Joan Lucid of the Saugus Union School District and Vicki Engbrecht from the William S. Hart District, both happened to be teachers at the time and were honored by the SCV Education Foundation during our annual event.  And now – almost 30 years later, as superintendents – they will have the opportunity to recognize teachers within their district.  They truly have come full circle!” added Hartmann.
The Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation promotes innovation and excellence in public education through community engagement and investment opportunities in all 54 K-12 schools.  The SCV Education Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit, and your donations are tax deductible.
Sponsorships and individual tickets for the event are still available and can be purchases online at www.scveducationfoundation.org/teacher_tribute.  Merchants looking to help recognize teachers with a gift in the swag bag can contact Jackie Hartmann at 661-678-0429 or at Jackie@scveducationfoundaiton.org
