Running for Those Who Cannot Wings for Life World Run
On one day each year the Wings for Life World Run is held simultaneously in numerous locations across the world and all with the same goal – to raise money to help to find a cure for spinal cord injury. Under its unique format, participants run as far as they can until they are passed by a moving finish line, the “Catcher Car,” which chases runners along the course, gradually getting faster until each runner has been caught. This moving finish line allows participants of any ability to complete the run – while the last man and woman to be caught are declared Wings for Life World Run Champions.
Resident Courtney Coleman shared about the experience via Facebook: Got talked into doing something different today! 2am wake up call, 4am start time, 9.2 miles accomplished. I give all the credit to my crew at #orangetheoryfitnesssantaclarita who signed me up even though I said NO! You guys always push me to be better and for that I am so grateful. Such an awesome energy this morning at the #wingsforlifeworldrun2017.
Another SCV resident ran for the fourth year supporting this unique event. One hundred percent of the Wings for Life World Run entry fees and fundraising from this global running event will help work towards Wings for Life’s ultimate goal to find a cure for spinal cord injury; and in just three years since it was launched in 2014, the Wings for Life World Run has attracted more than 280,000 people from 193 nationalities to run in more than 38 countries across six continents. Altogether they have raised 13.8 million euros while covering more than 2.8 million kilometers.
