Seasonal Transformation
As days grow longer, weather becomes hotter and the sun begins to reach into homes for longer amounts of time–a change is needed. Not only in the clothes worn or the drinks drunk, but in the decorations adorning homes.
While dark colors and heavier decorations work wonderfully in the winter, they tend to be far too deep for a spring look. Living rooms must undergo a change to keep with the transition of seasons.
Here is a how to transform your living room into a summer sanctuary in just a few easy areas:
Colors – The 2017 Pantone spring/summer color selection includes a variety of colors that each complement one another and can change a winter room into a summer one.
1. 17-4123 Niagara
2. 13-0755 Primrose Yellow
3. 19-4045 Lapis Blue
4. 17-1462 Flame
5. 14-4620 Island Paradise
6. 13-1404 Pale Dogwood
7. 15-0343 Greenery
8. 17-2034 Pink Yarrow
9. 18-0107 Kale
10. 14-1315 Hazelnut
Each of these colors can be paired with the others in varying patterns and accents to create a charming, bright room.
Decorations – Adding a few tasteful decorations around the room can utterly change the feel of the space. Plants with differing textures and colors in vases or glass atriums will brighten the room and bring nature inside.
Textural throws in accenting colors will also bring color into the room and gives opportunities to play with summer patterns.
Floor lamps can be placed around the room to provide more light, and they are much easier, not to mention cheaper, to install than permanent light fixtures.
Another way to play with the decorations is to remove bulky furniture or rugs. Try minimizing the amount of clutter to create a bright, roomy, cool room by increasing openness and air circulation. Simply rearranging the furniture you have is also a way to transform the room into the warmer season.
According to HGTV, one way to create a summer look is to paint your ceiling sixty–percent lighter that the walls. This will create a light-bouncing effect that will spread the sunlight and brighten up the entire room.
Curtains that are light and cheerful in spring colors are another easy way to change for the seasons–and will allow light to filter throughout the room. However, there is no need to suffer from the hot California sun–blackout drapes can also be found in light colors while simultaneously saving you from hot weather.
Pillows
The simplest and most effective ways to transition your living room from winter to summer is throw pillows. Pillows can introduce a dominant color into the room while also adding accent colors and patterns. Some designers suggest having what is called a “pillow wardrobe.” This is similar to a closet where you have pillows for cold and warm seasons that you can switch out when the weather changes, much like clothing. Then you can tuck away your dark winter colors and furs and bring out the airy, bright pillows whenever you want.
Try picking pillows from lighter fabrics such as linen and cotton. These will immediately bring a seasonal feel into the room as well as keep you cool. Pillows, blankets, and bookshelf accessories can all use the same colors and patterns to create a solid spring look.
A living room innovation can not only be easy, but affordable with the right tools and plan. So, take a look at some colors, choose some patterns and transform your space for the summer!
