Straight Teeth: Pretty or Necessary?
Most people find a beautiful smile adds to their self-esteem, confidence and can lead toward career and personal advantages. We live in a competitive world and a perfect smile can be rewarding in more ways than one. The goal of orthodontic treatment is a beautiful smile, and more importantly perfectly aligned teeth that function properly. When your teeth are appropriately aligned, they function better with less wear and tear on opposing teeth.
With the life expectancy around age 90, we want your teeth to last your entire lifetime. Straight teeth that function properly are part of a comprehensive dental health plan to maintain healthy teeth forever. Aligned teeth have many health benefits, some of which include; maintaining healthy bone level and a reduced risk of periodontal disease as straight teeth are easier to keep clean. Straight teeth can benefit those who are over the age of 60 as well as those in their teens. Your age isn’t a factor in straightening your smile, healthy teeth can be straightened at any age.
There are many treatment options to straighten teeth, the most common being standard orthodontics with bands and brackets and Invisalign. Invisalign is a favorite of our patients for many reasons. The clear aligners have shorter treatment durations and reduced expense over standard orthodontics. The clear trays are switched out every ten days, and taken out to eat. Patients tend to have less decay and issues with periodontal disease following treatment with Invisalign, as your home care is much easier than with standard bands and brackets.
If you have any questions, please call our office so my great team can discuss your options for a straighter, healthier smile!
