Back to School Dental Exams
With summer creeping to an end, and school sessions being right around the corner, now is a good time to get your child in for their “back to school dental exam”. Our schools in the Santa Clarita Valley require dental exams for children who are starting pre-school or kindergarten. Normal routines are easily tossed out the window during the summer break, and more treats are sure to be had. The start of the new school year is the perfect time to get your child back on track with their oral hygiene. Here’s what you can expect at your child’s checkup appointment:
1. Dental X-rays- Especially at such a young age, x-rays show us how your child’s teeth are developing. They also help detect decay in between the teeth. Decay can move very fast so the quicker it is detected the better.
2. Cleaning- A professional cleaning goes a long way. It removes more of the “cavity-causing” bacteria than normal brushing and flossing can accomplish. Even the best of brushers need to see the hygienist on a regular basis!
3. Exam- A big part of the dentist’s role is to monitor children as they grow. They see where things need to improve and can give you the tools to maintain and improve your child’s oral health.
The number one reason children miss school is due to dental appointments. Getting them in for their routine exam and cleaning before school starts is a great way to stay proactive and miss less school. Don’t procrastinate on making your child’s back to school appointment, as this time of year can be very busy for most dental offices. Please call our office if you have any questions regarding your child’s first dental visit or back to school exam!
