Celebrating ACS, Survivorship and Nancy Coulter
On July 11, ACS volunteer extraordinaire Nancy Coulter — recent recipient of the ACS 2016 California Division Lifetime Achievement Award — was honored by the Santa Clarita City Council for her wealth of contributions to cancer awareness. Of that recognition, Coulter stated: “I was overwhelmed and very thankful. Bringing ACS programs, services and education to our community makes such a big difference in so many cancer patient’s lives on their cancer journey. My daughter Heather has always been my inspiration to work for a cancer-free world.” One of Coulter’s innumerable local ACS achievements was realized on June 24 when the inaugural SCV Cancer Survivor Day was held at the Real Life Church in Valencia. The survivorship-celebrating event was the long-held vision of Coulter and her daughter Heather Warrick, former ACS SCV Unit Health Programs manager, who died four years ago after a 19-year battle with breast cancer. More than 200 guests attended the free event, which featured inspiring. speeches, food, music, raffles, and plentiful information on our valley’s cancer-related non-profits. City of Santa Clarita proclamations were presented by Mayor Pro-tem Laurene Weste. It was also announced that the Mayor’s office and City Council have hailed June 24 as SCV Cancer Survivor Day, a recognition that received hearty applause from the crowd.
