Tahiti For One
Bear with me here. There really is a legal lesson to be learned from my stupidity. First the story, then the lesson. Here we go. There was this girl…. Well, the history is long and complicated. But the short version is that she was gone, I still loved her and I wanted her back. Time had gone by and while extremely painful for me, I had given her the space she wanted. As many of you know, the singles scene can be brutal and my heart told me that it was only a matter of time before she realized how incredible things were between us and she came back. She wasn’t coming back and I thought that reaching out to her would bring her back. Her birthday was coming up and I wanted to give her the most romantic day of her life. My plan started with a pair of Prada Sun Glasses. Her favorite. But I couldn’t just give her the glasses. They had to be delivered with a beautiful message, one that not only expressed my feelings, but also brought back the wonderful times we had shared together. So, at great expense, I enlisted the help of a poetry expert to help me write the perfect poem for her.
My poem had a Tahiti theme, because that was our dream vacation spot. We had even joked about starting a “Tahiti Fund”. The poem interweaved Tahiti, her beautiful sparkly eyes, and the sun glasses were a natural fit. I asked my poet if there was anything else she could think of to make the moment more incredible. She had but one suggestion: Get Tahiti Tickets. So, I purchased two.
As it turns out, the title of this article is quite the spoiler alert. This November, it will be Tahiti for One. But I digress. Here is the legal lesson. Always read the fine print. As one might imagine, Tahiti tickets are quite pricey, which probably explains why not that many people go to Tahiti. My first thought after that train wreck of a day was that I could simply get a refund for both of our tickets. Wrong Again. What I mean here was that first, I was so incredibly wrong about the girl, and second, just as wrong about the refund. Second thought: maybe a refund for just her ticket. Nope. I was apparently in the middle of a “wrong streak”. Third thought, this one a bit outside the box: get the name on her ticket changed and take one of my kids instead. The airlines are too smart for that. Thus, this November, I will be traveling to Tahiti alone. Lesson learned: Always read the fine print. Ah, who am I kidding? I would have bought the tickets even if I had read the fine print. Being a romantic can be very expensive.
