Tell Me Something Good – August 2017
I feel very fortunate each month to write a column that’s sole purpose is to spread positive news, and share the accomplishments of the fantastic residents in our City. I am able to hop onto social media and with a quick scroll I can find one or two bits of great news every day. We also love to share your submissions, so keep sending them to contest@santaclaritamagazine.com.
There’s no better way to start this column than with an engagement, so with that said—Congratulations to Jonathan and Kaylin. The bride-to-be shared the following with us:
“Jonathan and I met in Dallas, TX when he came to my condo on an AT&T service request. He was tall, quiet, and sort of brooding at first. After talking to him a bit, offering him food and something to drink, I discovered he was from Santa Clarita, CA visiting Texas for work. We started talking, then eventually dating, and after flying back and forth from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles, CA countless times to visit each other, I finally decided to move out to Santa Clarita and start a life with him. It’s been nearly two years now, and Sunday, July 2nd he proposed. What made it so special was that he was able to surprise his entire family with the proposal also, and the ring he gave me was the same ring given to his mother by his father who passed away in 2009. He will also use his father’s wedding ring for himself and I can’t imagine a higher honor. We don’t have a date set yet, but we’re thinking a fall wedding!”
Congratulations also to local resident Kyle S. Gaughan, who was recently appointed to the rank of Air Traffic Controller Second Class in the United States Navy. Maggie-Mae Laufman was on hand to place his new pin as well as celebrate this wonderful accomplishment with him.
One particular great bit of news I am happy to share this month involves Valencia High School, and the graduating classes of 1997 and 1998. If you haven’t heard yet, a committee composed of 13 classmates (including myself) from the combined classes have planned an epic evening of fun to celebrate the 20-year anniversary. We are hosting the reunion Homecoming weekend, September 23, and you can find more details at www.vhs.20.com. Hope to see you there Viking Alum!
And speaking of VHS, ’97 Alum and SCV resident Francesca Milhoan made the move recently from Palmdale Regional Medical Center to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. We know PRMC will miss you dearly, but we are so happy to have you caring for us right here in SCV. Congratulations Fran!
