World Humanitarian Day – The Importance of VolunteeringWorld Humanitarian Day – The Importance of Volunteering
With upcoming World Humanitarian Day quickly approaching, volunteering is more important than ever. For certain organizations, volunteering can be a main resource on how they operate. This can either be through donations of gently used goods, companies donating funds to further an organization’s efforts, or through time spent helping a wonderful cause. When you help an organization, you increase their chances of thriving and succeeding with their cause.
Volunteering assists with those that need help when they need it the most and when we choose to volunteer, we increase our own sense of self-worth. We help those that need encouragement or support with their lives, and when we give our time, money or belongings, it’s a great sense of accomplishment. This is true for all walks of life, whether you’re a teenager, young adult, or senior, with seniors greatly benefitting from volunteering. It adds fulfillment and leads to positive impacts in their daily lives.
Oakmont of Santa Clarita is celebrating World Humanitarian Day and the benefits of volunteering to heart by encouraging their residents to connect with causes they support. Whether it’s making homemade blankets to send to hospitals, or spending time at an animal shelter, residents are taking time to donate to causes that need support.
On top of that, each Oakmont community has a featured way they can help connect with the local community by giving back every month. For example, this summer they plan on supporting veterans and are working to collect items for Operation Gratitude this August. Operation Gratitude is an organization that sends care packages to enlisted men and women. Whether it’s shampoo, toothpaste or body wash, Operation Gratitude works on sending out needed supplies that soldiers might be lacking overseas.
In honor of World Humanitarian Day, Oakmont will be celebrating by donating their time to give back to Operation Gratitude for all the hard work that America’s soldiers accomplish. So far, their efforts have already lead to positive changes like creating wellness packages and hosting fundraisers for veteran’s organizations.
If you’re interested in seeing what charity event might be happening near you, reach out to your local community and see if there are any ways that you can give back to causes you support.
