It is All About the Soil
Being a landscape designer, it is very important to me to leave the earth in better shape than I found it. Although the drought has been very harsh this past few years in California, it has made landscape designers and other landscape professionals aware and challenged them to take notice about what we can do to make a difference. We are also in a time where we are finally coming to grips with the fact that we need to do something about climate change. Could these two disasters possibly be linked? The short answer is – Yes, everything about the earth and climate is linked!
As always, I want to bring this back to our gardens. I have had the privilege of being able to take time out to learn and study about what can do to help. As it turns out, it’s all about the soil! It is about your soil, my soil, the farmer’s soil, your neighbor’s soil. Soil is the only thing on the planet that can successfully filter pollutants from water, it has a huge capacity for sequestering carbon and yes, it can also store water. I can help you learn how to do that in your garden. I can help you create a watershed on your property and build up your soil. So many people say that they have terrible soil, we can fix that!
Having a beautiful, climate appropriate garden is something we can all have if we take care of our soil, we need to build up the soil, and not with a bunch of chemical products, but by inoculating the soil and helping the beneficial microorganisms take care of it and your plants. You can create an ecosystem that takes care of itself. No more fertilizers, no more chemicals. If you would like to learn more, please think about creating a beautiful self-sustaining garden with me.
