Nanci Olmos Celebrates 30 Years as SCV Business Owner
Clarice’s Cake and Candy Supplies is proud to announce the celebration of Nanci Olmos’ thirtieth year as owner and proprietor. On August 25th and 26th a celebration was held with raffles, a Vintage sale, demos and lots of goodies. Clarice’s Cake & Candy Supplies is located at 22936 Lyons Avenue in Newhall.
As a single woman and mother, Nanci Olmos took over ownership of Clarice’s Cake and Candy Supplies in June of 1987 from founder Clarice Secrest and kept the name Clarice’s to honor the talent and legacy Secrest had not only brought to Newhall and the Santa Clarita Valley but all of Southern California.
As it did from day one, Clarice’s features Specialty cakes, cookies and candy, all made to order as well as cake and candy making supplies. Among the highlights that Nanci offers are classes for both kids and adults in her new classroom completed in 2012. From beginning and advance cake decorating to candy making and cookie and cupcake decorating, Nanci has now taught multiple generations of Santa Clarita residents. Specialty classes are also offered for fondant, cake sculpting, Topsy-Turvy cakes, Marzipan fruit, and sugar snowballs just to mention a few. Now a fortynine year resident of the Santa Clarita Valley, Nanci has proudly kept with the tradition of Clarice’s founder, and spent over 30 years serving the residents and business community of the Santa Clarita Valley. With Nanci at the helm, Clarice’s Cake and Candy Supplies had been a 29 year participant of “Taste of the Town,” sponsor of the Santa Clarita Valley Child and Family Center,
and an original participant of “Festival of Trees” including fourteen years as chairperson of the Gingerbread House Contest and Auction.
Nanci has done cake decorating demos at Hart, Valencia and West Ranch High schools and for over thirty years has donated prizes for winners at the Antelope Valley Fair’s Cake Decorating contest.To keep up her service to the community Nanci has offered chocolate and cupcake classes for special need children, spoke at Career Days throughout the Hart High School District, and taught chocolate classes at Tutor Time Preschools in both the Santa Clarita Valley and Palmdale.
Nanci has donated to the Legacy Christian School and Carousel Ranch, and donated supplies for Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s Caramel Apple booth for over fifteen years.
As a member of the California Cake Club and International Cake Society for over 30 years, Nanci has also taught classes for the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Christian Womens’ Club, and many youth, church and home school groups. From 1997 through 2004 Nanci served on the “Noel to Newhall” committee, an event put on by the small businesses in Newhall to bring the community together for the holiday season.
