Legacy Christian is Going Full STEAM Ahead
Wander down the new Discovery Hall at Legacy Christian Academy and your eye will be drawn to too many remarkable things to count. From exceptional student artwork to live animals in grand terrariums and aquariums built right into the wall and state-of-the-art technology that makes an Apple store look quaint, the space vibrantly communicates that, at Legacy, Science/Technology/Engineering/Art/Mathematics (STEAM) is serious business.
Last year, Legacy launched their already-renowned Innovation Lab – a space so remarkable in its design and utility that leaders from other regional schools asked for tours. Home to the Academy’s robotics enrichment class and competitive team, the Innovation Lab is where every Legacy student receives instruction on today’s top technology – and education on how to use it safely and ethically.
Learners master Microsoft Word – and how to build a computer from the ground up. Every project assigned in the space takes full advantage of the opportunities the Innovation Lab provides for collaboration, problem solving and ingenuity, thanks to the multi-functional design, write-on walls, research-university-level tech and more.
In 2017, Legacy students returned to a campus that now, in addition to the Innovation Lab, boasts a brand-new Science Lab, too. The space provides an immersive visual and auditory experience that replicates the environments students are learning about in real time, as well as full access to state-of-the-art lab equipment that reveals science facts. When coupled with Legacy’s academically-accelerated curriculum that cultivates a pragmatic, critically-engaged, forward-thinking understanding of the world in which we live, the Science Lab is a game changer for Legacy learners.
“With the addition of our new Science Lab, we’ve positioned our campus community for incredible success in not only the STEAM field, but in life,” says Tim Borruel, Legacy co-founder and superintendent. “Today’s and tomorrow’s global economy requires engagement from innovators who can identify, address and solve problems that are complex and impactful. We’re not just ‘teaching facts’ in this space, we’re creating new cognitive pathways in the brain that will empower our learners to best adapt to an ever-changing world.”
Tours of Discovery Hall, home of Legacy’s Science and Innovation Labs, are available year-round. Legacy is currently taking applications for the 2018-19 school year. Call for details at 661-257-7377.
