Happy Holidays?

 The holidays for many people are not happy. For some, painful memories of loved ones gone, finances gone awry, stresses of a job, and even health challenges makes being happy difficult. But it need not be that way.
However, you can turn your holiday blues into holiday joy. The “Golden Text” of the Bible simply declares, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but shall have everlasting life.” What will make this holiday a time of joy rather than something you dread? You can do it by giving. No, I am not talking exclusively about giving money (you may not have any to give), but by giving yourself. The most precious commodity that you have is you.
How can this holiday be happy? Give the gift of you!! Give of your time – visit with a senior who may be homebound, or a young couple who might appreciate a free baby sitter for the evening. Give your time to an organization that can use a volunteer, even if just for a few hours. Give a warm smile – and this will cause a warm smile returned to you. Give and develop a friendship. Who do you need to call and tell them you are thinking of them? Send a card to someone you have not spoken to recently.
All this is simply giving of yourself to someone in need. This holiday season is about God giving of Himself through His Son Jesus Christ to the world. Scripture declares, “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” Jesus came as a baby, born in a stable, laid in a manger, with rags as clothes, but 2,000 years later He is still giving joy, peace and love to the world.
