Utilizing the Funds from Measure EE
On November 4, 2014, the voters of the Saugus Union School District authorized Measure EE under the Proposition 39 statutes. Measure EE authorized the issuance of $148 million in General Obligation Bonds, to be used to improve District schools by upgrading technology for 21st Century classrooms, improving school safety and security, repairing/replacing deteriorated roofs, lighting and electrical systems where needed.
This update is designed for our community of parents, guardians and neighbors to keep you in the loop on all of the projects that have been completed, are in process or are in planning for the 2016/2017 academic year.
In September, SUSD began its District-wide introduction of Interactive Flat Panels to all classrooms on all campuses. These amazing new pieces of technology expand a teacher’s ability to engage students using a combination of video/audio immersion, interactive software and upfront inclusion that involves the entire class in the lesson.
To date, funding from Measure EE has been used to complete the following projects:
• Completion of the Long Range Comprehensive Master Plan (see it at http://www.saugususd.org/documents/Business%20Services/Facilities/FMP/Final%20Master%20Plan%20EE.pdf).
• Installation of Interactive Flat Panels (IFPs) in all classrooms at all schools in the district
• Install new fencing for Mountainview Elementary kindergarten yard, and fencing following the walkway between building and parking lot adjacent to classroom 22 and relocate existing gate to front, creating a secondary exit
• Remodel lobby for single point of entry upgrade for North Park Elementary and Bridgeport Elementary
• Security System and Exterior Door Lock upgrades for Rio Vista, Rosedell, Skyblue Mesa, James Foster and Highlands
• Install parking lot gates at Plum Canyon Elementary
The Saugus Union School District is currently working on/planning for the following projects:
• Complete site specific master plans for all campuses. These site specific plans set in motion phases 2-4 listed in the Comprehensive Master Plan and include meetings to review each phase’s proposed project scope to confirm existing conditions and determine locations for proposed additions, including science buildings and other potential classroom additions.
• Modernizing network by converting existing District servers from CentOS (Linux) to Windows, add uniterupptable power supply back up system to all sites and District Office and add a backup server to protect data
• Upgrade site fencing for Rio Vista Elementary
• Reconfigure/remodel front of school/single point of entry for Tesoro Del Valle and James Foster Elementary
• Continue to work on District Project Support/Special Projects
• Establish State new construction and modernization eligibility
As our project list is updated, we will look forward to updating our community and sharing all of the improvements, campus by campus.
