Valencia Medical Center – Treatments for Spider and Varicose Veins and Venous Insufficiency Offering Free Ultrasound Scanning
Spider veins and varicose veins are common conditions that affect many adults. These abnormally enlarged vessels, which affect women more than men, appear most often on the legs and become prevalent with age. Spider veins and varicose veins affect up to 50 percent of the adult population.
Spider veins (also called telangiectasias) are clusters of tiny blood vessels that develop close to the surface of the skin. They are often red, blue or purple. Varicose veins are abnormally enlarged that appear most often on the legs. They are typically blue, purple or skin-colored; and they appear as dilated, twisting and bulging vessels that may be raised above the surface of the skin. Spider veins and varicose veins are caused by structural abnormalities of blood vessels.
Why do women develop them more than men? Prolonged sitting, obesity, pregnancy, hormone therapy, birth control pills are among the factors as to why women develop spider and varicose veins. Both conditions, especially spider veins, have often no symptoms but their undesirable cosmetic appearance is unwelcomed by women. Varicose veins cause more problems such as swelling, aching, burning, itching, tingling and can lead to discoloration of skin and skin ulcers.
Skin ulcers are an open wound, usually appearing on the lower legs, and may lead to infections, superficial thrombophlebitis with localized bleeding.
Venous Insufficiency
This condition is a more severe condition, as venous insufficiency can be life threatening. If you have the following symptoms it is important to seek medical attention to find out what treatment plan may help you such as surgical, laser or other options. Swelling, leg pain when walking, leg weakness, leg cramps and heavy legs are all concerns to contact Valencia Medical Center about.
We provide the latest surgical and non-surgical laser treatments, often covered by Medicare and most insurances. This month Valencia Medical Center offers free ultrasound scanning to diagnose venous insufficiency. Please take advantage of this opportunity to receive a free ultrasound.
