Botox for Stress Relief/Teeth Grinding
Bruxism, a medical term for unconscious teeth grinding and clenching while awake or asleep, can cause dental problems such as teeth chipping, enamel loss, and/or increased tooth sensitivity. In addition, it can cause headaches, facial pains, and migraines if it becomes chronic. So, if you are suffering from Bruxism, then you may be able to benefit from Botox treatment at our office. You may be wondering, “at a dentist office?” If you think about it, dentists probably have more experience and training on the injections in these areas than any other healthcare professionals. Dentists are specialized in the oral and maxillofacial areas (the face from chin to forehead) and dentists treat these areas every single day!
As to how Botox can help with teeth grinding; small doses of Botox are injected into the masseter muscle (the muscle that moves the jaw) which weakens it to prevent involuntary grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw. The relaxed muscle will reduce the wear and tear on the teeth due to grinding. In addition, headaches stemmed from the stress/pressure should be reduced or subsided. Added benefit may be the softened appearance of the jaw line for those who may have had the appearance of square jaw by over-developed masseter muscle from the Bruxism.
Here are several reasons to check out a dentist’s office (Botox certified) for a Botox application:
Dentists are very experienced with injections (giving 20-30 injections every day!)
Dentists know the facial anatomy better than most doctors.
This is a service requested by many dental patients.
CONVENIENCE: You visit your dentist every 3-6 months anyway. So it is the perfect time to have your Botox touch up!
