Promising New Research on Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, and is now the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. It is fast becoming an epidemic. This horrific disease is destroying our brains, our families, our life savings, and the Medicare/Medi-Cal system in America. Other neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s Disease, are also sharply on the rise. We know that the disease progression can be slow, and the brain is affected many years before the symptoms appear. The bottom line: our brains are under attack in our modern society– with no “cure” on the horizon despite millions of dollars spent on ongoing traditional research.
Ask any senior citizen, and they will tell you that Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease were simply not commonplace years ago. Now it is everywhere, and affects millions. What has changed?
New research is emerging, and not necessarily from traditional sources. Rather, individual scientists, doctors, and researchers are making unconventional breakthroughs, and “getting the word out” of their discoveries through books offered to the public (via Amazon, bookstores, etc.). They are not waiting for the government, which can take years, or longer. As author Dave Asprey states in his book “Headstrong”: “You have a choice: you can wait a generation before this information hits the mainstream or you can benefit now.” I believe this to be true. We can wait many years for expensive clinical trials which may or may not occur, or we can read about the amazing studies and successes these individuals are finding – and make changes to our diet and lifestyle as recommended. I urge every person to take charge of their own health, and decide for themselves.
Here are just a few books I found fascinating. Although there are more, I have listed only three, which will get you started:
“The End of Alzheimer’s” by Dr. Dale Bresden (published summer 2017)
“Grain Brain” by Dr. David Perlmutter
“Headstrong” by Dave Asprey
Many experts in this field are finding a “gut-brain” connection, meaning what we eat is directly affecting our brain, and causing damage over the years. Gluten, processed foods, carbohydrates, and sugar (to name a few villains) are thought to play a major role in long-term brain dysfunction and dementia. The books reveal much more. I hope every person takes the time to educate themselves, read the books, and hopefully empower their brain.
