Swimming Pools and The Rain Here are some things to check on your pool before it rains.
Check around your pool equipment to make sure the area is clean and clear of debris. All pool equipment is made to be installed outdoors so it is ok for it to get rained on. Being rained on is ok, but if the rain water does not drain away and the equipment gets submerged underwater, this will damage it. Check and make sure water can drain away from the equipment area and all the way out to the street.
Look for any broken electrical conduit. If you can see the wires, this needs to be fixed.
When it rains in Santa Clarita we normally get the classic California rain – that is it comes down all at once raining “cats and dogs” as my grandma used to say. So, check around your property to make sure the water has a way to drain from your backyard to the street.
If we get enough rain to fill your pool all the way to the top, don’t worry everything will be ok. The rain water will land on top of the pool water then run off the pool into the yard then out to the street. It normally takes five or six inches of rain to fill a pool all the way to the top. So, if all this water has successfully drained away when it landed around the pool then even if the pool fills all the way to the top you will not have any problems.
