User-Friendly Technology Ensures Senior Safety and Independence
As 10,000 Americans turn 65 each day through the year 2035, surveys show that nearly 90 percent of this growing group of senior citizens wish to remain in their homes and “age in place.” Home Helpers, one of the nation’s largest home care agencies are excited to announce the expansion of Direct Link product lines designed to ensure the safety of seniors living at home.
These products, which include updated line of personal emergency response systems and vital signs monitoring products, are specifically designed to alleviate the concerns that families face in keeping their aging loved ones safe at home.
Our goal is to keep seniors living independently and safely in their own homes for as long as possible. These new products help us meet that goal while also alleviating stress and worry for seniors and their families.
Direct Link’s line of 24/7 emergency monitoring units includes:
• Land-line Personal Emergency Response System: Features auto self-testing, inactivity timer, wellness checks, 600-800 foot range, backup battery
• Cellular Personal Emergency Response System: Uses multiple cellular networks, 650-foot range, 24-hour backup battery
• Mobile care unit: Portable unit features GPS technology, fall detection
• Fall sensor: Fall detection, raises “unconsciousness” alarm after 10 seconds if no movement is detected
• Automated medication dispenser: Uses microchip technology to dispense multiple medications at preset times
• Vital signs monitoring units: Weight, blood pressure, glucose and pulse oximeter monitoring
Using these products to stay in touch and/or proactively monitor chronic illnesses and conditions can provide greater peace of mind for families while decreasing medical complications and reducing unnecessary trips to the emergency room due to falls or forgetting to take medications.
According to U.S. Census Data, about 80 percent of seniors have at least one chronic health condition and 50 percent have at least two. A Department of Veterans Affairs study found a 25 percent reduction in the average number of days hospitalized and a 19 percent reduction in hospitalization costs for patients using telehealth monitoring.
