I Can See the White Board Thanks to Aunt Mabel’s Sweater!
How could Aunt Mabel’s sweater help a fourth-grade student to see the board in her classroom? So glad you asked!
Susan is Aunt Mabel’s favorite niece. For Susan’s birthday, Aunt Mabel bought her a beautiful sweater that was “So Susan.” Unfortunately, Susan didn’t care for the very nice sweater, but she smiled and said, “Thank you Aunt Mabel! I love it!” Susan then hung up the sweater in her closet, where it stayed until Susan found a sweater that screamed, “Susan!”
When Susan went to hang up, her totally her sweater, she saw Aunt Mabel’s sweater and decided that she would donate it to Assistance League Resale. She had heard of all the good work the organization does for the community.
Susan dropped off Aunt Mabel’s sweater to a volunteer named Mary. Mary gave her an appreciative smile and a tax donation slip. Mary looked at the sweater and thought, “What a great sweater!” She quickly put a price tag of $4 and placed it out onto the sales floor.
Yes, I said a price tag of $4! Unbelievable right? The bargains in our shop are unbelievable. Most women’s pants are $2 and most of the items in our men’s department are priced at $5. But, I need to get back to Aunt Mabel’s sweater.
A young college student named Amanda, who loves to shop in thrift stores because it’s a very trendy thing to do, browsed through the racks and fell in love with Aunt Mabel’s sweater. She quickly snatched it up and paid for it.
The $4 that Amanda paid for the sweater goes directly back to our community because the shop is completely run by volunteers. This time, the $4 went toward iCare For Kids, an Assistance League program that pays for eye exams and glasses for students.
A fourth-grade student named Christian participated in the iCare For Kids program and received her first pair of prescription glasses. She was so excited to show her glasses to her teacher. Christian was amazed at how clearly she could read what was written on the front board. She also noticed the cute boy named Evan who sits across the room.
And that is how Aunt Mabel’s sweater enabled a student to see the board in her classroom. What will your donations do?
