You Donate… then You Shop… and Then What Happens?
Then you become partners with the members/volunteers of Assistance League® Santa Clarita. You join with us in our mission to make a difference in the lives of families and individuals in our community. You make our philanthropic programs successful with your donations and then by shopping. All the staff you meet in Assistance League Resale are member/volunteers, and the proceeds of our store stay in Santa Clarita to support programs which benefit the people of our community. These programs are varied and reach many people.
Have you heard of Operation School Bell®? This program takes place in Assistance League chapters across the nation each year as school is starting. Research has shown that children perform better in class, and bullying is minimized if a child’s self-image is enhanced with new clothes for school. Last year you made it possible for us to provide new school clothes and shoes for approximately 2,700 children in need from every public school in our valley. We are very grateful for the assistance of Old Navy and Payless Shoes as we worked to fulfill our mission. Another aspect of Operation School Bell is icare for Kids. A child with poor vision is not able to perform well in class. icare for Kids pays for eye examinations and eyeglasses for children giving them clear vision, many for the first time. We could not do this without you and Walmart in Canyon Country. New clothes, shoes and eyeglasses bring happy smiles, along with words of appreciation from the children and their parents.
Arts Grants for Schools brings professional artists, musical instruction, and instruments to school sites to enrich and engage students. In December, you partnered with us to bring music and dance programs featuring three countries. They were performed by professionals from the Los Angeles County Music Center. Soon, three more Arts Grants are to be awarded.
The Teddy Bear Patrol was one of our first philanthropic programs, beginning in 1989. New teddy bears are given to all our community first responders to be placed in their vehicles, and to our local hospital to be placed in the Emergency Department. When a child or an adult is in a traumatic situation, a firefighter, law enforcement officer or medical personnel can give them a bear for their comfort. Every year you partner with us to provide hundreds of teddy bears to Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
Two programs benefit our Santa Clarita senior citizens. The first is Family Ties. Once every month, dinner, decorations and music are provided by Assistance League member/volunteers to the residents of the Santa Clarita Convalescent Hospital. The residents are given gifts for their birthdays, and at holiday time, they are treated with decorations and presents. Loaves of Love is done two times per year. Members bake and festively wrap small loaves of specialty breads to be included with meals delivered to the homes of people who receive their meals through the Santa Clarita Senior Center Home Delivered Meals.
UkeALadies is a group of member/volunteers who bring ukulele music and singing to many venues in Santa Clarita throughout the year.
All your donations and your shopping are appreciated. Because of the generosity of our community, Assistance League Resale can continue with our mission. For that we sincerely thank you.
