Are There Really Wineries in Old Town Newhall? – The Double Trouble Wine Room
They hear that a lot.
“We can come in and taste your wine here?”
They say “Yes!” to that question a lot.
‘They’ are the Hoi Polloi Winery and Pagter Brothers Wineries on Main Street in Old Town Newhall where they share the aptly named Double Trouble Wine Room.
Street’s newest winery attraction, the Double Trouble Wine Room, Main brings a bit of California Wine Country to Old Town Newhall.
“People have been peeking in through the windows since before we opened in April of last year. Then they come in and we pour them a flight of samples of our wines. From there, they buy a glass or a bottle” explains Dan Erland Andersen, one of the three winemakers and owners of Hoi Polloi Winery. Doug Minnick and Ted Behlendorf are the other two.
“We both source world-class grapes from top California vineyards in Paso Robles, Santa Barbara County and Sonoma, and meticulously handcraft small lots of fruit forward wines at our shared winery here in Santa Clarita,” declares Scott Page-Pagter of Pagter Brothers.
“These are the wines we ourselves want to drink – not supermarket wines“ adds Scott’s wife, Sidney Hopkinson. “We believe our passion shows up in the glass, and our customers seem to agree. Demand is even higher than we expected.”
The spacious, airy room and large comfortable back patio area make it a perfect place to relax and bring your own food, cheese, or to order from Newhall restaurants or visiting food trucks.
The winemakers themselves are almost always present and happy to share their knowledge as well as their wines. “All leave with a story and an understanding of how our wines are made,” says Hoi Polloi’s Ted Behlendorf.
Double Trouble Wine Room features excellent live music on most weekends. Wine club members receive discounts, limited–release wines and special parties.
“We set out to create a fun, friendly, comfortable place to hang out, not a stuffy snobbish tasting room experience where you stand up and get moved out,” states Doug Minnick from Hoi Polloi. “Plus, think of all the time and gas money you can save without the drive to wine country!” laughs Minnick.
For the Wine Country feel without the hassle and drive stop by The Double Trouble Wine Room located at 24338 Main St. Old Town Newhall or call in today for more information: 661 476-5627.
