by | Apr 23, 2018 | On The Town

The Magazine of Santa Clarita was so excited to put on and attend the second viewing of Sally Colón-Petree’s Women Like Us. This endearing documentary sheds light on the horrific practices of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and the efforts of some incredible women and organizations who are combating this practice, providing refuge and education to the women of Africa. This film also shed light on some appalling issues that are being done right here in the United States, Human Trafficking. Along with a small crew, Colón-Petree took to the streets of Los Angeles and meet with non-profit organizations and a special police task force that are in the front lines of the battle against human trafficking. Director and Producer Sally Colón-Petree along with some crew members and family came out to answer any questions and give some insight on what inspired her to create this feature. Look for her next features which will delve more into human trafficking and the tragedy that came about after the hurricane in Puerto Rico.
