Celebrity Sightings – June 2018

by | May 25, 2018 | Celebrity Sightings

You know, it’s not often that you run into a complete and total legend… and that is what happened to SCV residents Dan and Lori Sterkel when the pair met none other than “Mr. Las Vegas” himself, Wayne Newton. Carson Wayne Newton is one of the best-known entertainers in Las Vegas, Nevada, he is known by the nicknames The Midnight Idol, Mr. Las Vegas and Mr. Entertainment. His well-known songs include 1972’s “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast” (his biggest hit, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard chart), “Years” (1980), and his vocal version of “Red Roses for a Blue Lady” (1965). His signature song «Danke Schoen” (1963) was notably used in the score for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986). In 2009, he began performing his newest show “Once Before I Go” at the Tropicana in Las Vegas. A year later he took a five-year hiatus to spend time with his family and prepare his voice for a future Las Vegas residency. In 2016, Newton returned to the stage at Bally’s Hotel in the form of a lounge show called “Up Close & Personal”, a combination of live singing, playing some of the 13 self-taught instruments (having learned in the past to give his voice a rest when performing six shows a night at the Fremont Hotel), and showing movie and television clips on screen.
This next sighting was two-fold. Kara Petersen is not only an SCV resident, and fan of Drew Barrymore, but she is also her stunt double on the hit Netflix Show, “Santa Clarita Diet”. Drew Barrymore’s career spans decades, beginning when she was just a young girl. Kara’s career is relatively new, yet she has not stopped working since the day she started and is best known for her portrayal of the District 6 female tribute in the 2012 film, The Hunger Games, as well as several appearances in Disney and Nickelodeon sitcoms.
Drew Blythe Barrymore is an actress, author, director, model, and producer. She is a member of the Barrymore family of American stage and film actors, and the granddaughter of John Barrymore. She made her breakout role as a child actress in Steven Spielberg’s film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). Following a highly publicized, turbulent childhood marked by drug and alcohol abuse with two stints in rehab, she released her autobiography, Little Girl Lost (1991). Barrymore subsequently appeared in a string of successful films, including Poison Ivy (1992), Scream (1996), and Ever After(1998). She is also known for co-starring with Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer (1998), 50 First Dates (2004), and Blended (2014). In 1995, she and Nancy Juvonen formed a joint production company, Flower Films, and went on to produce several films in which Barrymore also starred, such as Never Been Kissed (1999), Charlie›s Angels (2000), Donnie Darko (2001), Fever Pitch (2005), Music and Lyrics (2007), and her directorial debut Whip It! (2009). Barrymore won a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe Award for her performance in the HBO drama film Grey Gardens (2009). Since 2017, she has starred in the Netflix television series Santa Clarita Diet.
