SCV Relay For Life Makes Magic
The Most Magical Relay on Earth, Santa Clarita Valley’s Relay For Life, was held on May 19 at Central Park and celebrated twenty years of Relay in the Santa Clarita Valley. Cancer survivors, caregivers, supporters, and friends came together to support the American Cancer Society’s mission of a world without cancer. Teams in festive Disney-themed attire decorated booths, held raffles, and walked in solidarity with one another. Since September of this year, the event has raised almost $300,000 which will fund life-saving research, innovative treatment, and community outreach. The first lap of the morning, the Survivors’ Lap, celebrated those who have faced cancer—from children to seniors—and honored their devoted caregivers. The evening Luminaria ceremony featured a poignant candle-lit lap in memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer.
The event was a success due to the hard work of the leadership team and their selfless volunteers as well as the generosity of many sponsors including UCLA Health and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
