Play-Based Preschool is the Best Academic Preschool
As a parent you always want the best for your child. Why choose a play-based preschool? Research shows is that a play-based, developmentally appropriate preschool is, in fact, the best academic preschool. When tested, children who went to a play-based program did better academically in Kindergarten, but most importantly continued to grow and reach academic goals over the years. At Creative Years we recognize this, and our curriculum is based on these facts.
When learning happens through play and exploring it gives children opportunities to share ideas with others. We take into consideration what your child’s interests are and your child will learn to use good conversation skills and vocabulary while playing. Along with that, children learn problem solving skills and strategies to communicate with their friends. These skills are learned by playing with other children and at their level of understanding.
Creative Years small class size gives the teachers the ability to work with your child’s individual development style as well. The daily curriculum is planned taking into consideration the interests of the children in the class. There is time to have planned activities such as circle time and share time, but also time for your child to choose activities that they enjoy playing and working on in each classroom.
Your child will explore literacy and writing skills when teachers read and tell stories. Stories prompt conversations from the written language. Pictures prompt open-ended questions that lead to literacy extension and continuation of conversation. The skills that your child learns through play in preschool will give him/her the thinking skills to write their own stories in Kindergarten.
Math concepts are learned in daily routines like counting friends or setting a table during dramatic play. Children can learn the concept of geometry when using building blocks. Observations and experiments in science teach your child concepts about measuring and chemical reactions.
Art projects expand children’s imagination. At Creative Years we give them direction and all the supplies needed to complete their masterpieces. Each child’s art is unique to them and their imagination. Confidence is raised when a work of art is their own.
All of this and much more accompanied with a teacher who is observant, engaged in play and appropriately directs children when needed so that the needs of your child can be met, makes a play-based program great. It allows your child to learn what he/she needs to learn in the most developmental and appropriate way.
