August is going to be especially busy here at The Magazine of Santa Clarita, not only are we working on our next big issue but the buzz has already started, you guessed it, Dancing With Our Stars is back and it’s bigger than ever! With over 20 local non-profits participating in this year’s event, it is going to be one of the funnest nights in the SCV! Since the inaugural event, Dancing With Our Stars has collectively raised more than $1.5 million for our local charities, and it warms our hearts to watch that number climb by thousands of dollars every year. Santa Clarita is such an outstanding community, and we thank all of our partners, sponsors and participants for helping us build this into an event Santa Clarita can be proud of. We hope to see you there, cheering on the people who make a difference in this community every day. I personally take on a different role this year as I, along with Chris Schauble and Bella Shaw will be judging the performances, I’m very excited about that. This year is far more diverse than previous years, as we welcome dance groups to the mix. I do hope you will join us on August 24th at the Performing Arts Center at COC as we dance the night away.
You’ll have more than one way to support our non-profits this month, the Jazz & Blues Concert Series closes its 2018 summer lineup with their final August 3 performance. Each show donates funds to a different non-profit, and this is Santa Clarita’s last chance to come out and support until next year. Don’t miss The Delgado Brothers, performing on the closed-off street area in front of the Hyatt Regency Valencia.
We are pleased to show our support and we are looking forward to an evening of great wine, beer, food and fun as the Vine 2 Wine Classic returns to Cal Arts on Saturday, August 11. Proceeds from the event will benefit Circle of Hope, Inc. See opposite page for more details.
Eve Bushman, Marlee Lauffer and Amy Daniels of the WiSH Education Foundation, are once again making plans for a fabulous night of cocktails and food at their Cocktails on the Roof event, slated for September 7th on the rooftop of Macy’s. Get your
tickets early before it sells out – find more information on page 6.
Don’t like wine or cocktails? No problem, be sure to attend the Santa Clarita Sunrise Rotary Club Tequila Tasting which will be held at the Egg Plantation on September 8 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Another fabulous roof top event, but this time in Newhall is the Bridge to Home Soup for the Soul fundraiser on Saturday, October 13. The organization is promising a fun-filled night with fine wines, delicious soups, appetizers and desserts. Bridge to Home plays a vital role in the SCV by providing a support system for the homeless.
Once again, we have partnered with the SCV chapter of Junior Chamber International (Jaycees) to present their 40 Under Forty Awards to be held on November 9, at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. Do you know someone under 40 that deserves to be nominated? If so, go online and send in your application today, nominations will end on August 1 so hurry – visit scv40underforty.com.
There’s much to do in Santa Clarita in the summer, so be sure and check out our calendar listing on page 38 to see what’s going on around town.
While the warm weather doesn’t seem as if it is going to leave any time soon, the summer season will soon be coming to an end. Teachers are getting their classrooms ready and before you know it, the kids will be back in school. Consult our Back to School Guide on page 68 to make informed choices when selecting education-related professionals and businesses. Our Business Guide is also available in this issue.
Lastly, don’t forget to pick up the August/September issue of élite Magazine, where we have featured some remarkable people who live in the Santa Clarita Valley.
