Celebrity Sightings – August 2018

They light up the screen, and take us away from the world for 30 minutes, an hour or sometimes more than two… So, who am I talking about? Well actors of course… sometimes they are referred to as celebrities, but by profession, they are actors, and our town is filled with them. Santa Clarita is sometimes called Hollywood’s backlot as it is the City so many well-known, working as well as up and coming actors call home. As residents, I think we all do our best to respect everyone’s privacy, so it is especially cool when they don’t mind snapping a quick picture with someone.
Speaking of well-known actors, this first celebrity has a face that everyone knows… Actor Danny Trejo. Danny recently donated his time to help a local family raise funds for a family who is battling cancer. Danny Trejo is a Mexican-American actor who has appeared in numerous Hollywood films, often as villains and antiheroes. His films include “Heat” (1995), “Con Air” (1997), and “Desperado” (1995), the last with frequent collaborator Robert Rodriguez. Trejo is perhaps most recognized as the character “Machete”, originally developed by Rodriguez for the “Spy Kids” series of movies. He has appeared in TV shows such as “Breaking Bad”, “The X-Files”, “The Flash”, and “Sons of Anarchy”. Trejo was born in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, to Mexican parents. He is the son of Alice Rivera and Dan Trejo, a construction worker, and a second cousin of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, though the two were unaware that they were related until the filming of “Desperado”.
Eric Estrada (“Ponch” from CHiPs), was recently in Santa Clarita with Assemblyman Dante Acosta to receive an award for his efforts to raise funds for families of fallen CHP officers. Henry Enrique “Erik” Estrada is an American actor, voice actor, and police officer known for his co-starring lead role in the police drama television series “CHiPs”, which ran from 1977 to 1983. In 2000, Estrada was named the international “Face” of D.A.R.E. which is a campaign against drugs. He also speaks out for the American Heart Association, the United Way, and the C.H.P. 11-99 Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides benefits and scholarships to California Highway Patrol family members, as well as funeral expenses for fallen officers. Estrada’s experience in CHiPs led him to become a reserve officer for the Muncie Police Department in Muncie, Indiana. Estrada became spokesperson for the C.H.P.’s “car seat inspection and installation” program. He has made numerous appearances supporting automobile child-seat safety checks across the country. He appeared in Española, New Mexico, on May 28, 2009, to promote the “100 Days and Nights of Summer” traffic safety and anti-DWI campaign that involves the New Mexico State Police.
Our last sighting came from resident Garrett Carpenter who saw actress Chelsea Kane and was able to take a photo. Chelsea Kane Staub (born September 15, 1988), known professionally as Chelsea Kane since early 2011, is an American actress and singer. She is known for her role as Stella Malone in the Disney Channel sitcom television series “Jonas” and the role of Riley Perrin in the Freeform sitcom, Baby Daddy. In 2012, Kane joined the cast of the final season of The CW’s “One Tree Hill” in a recurring role. She played a character named Tara, who is a love interest for Kane’s real life ex-boyfriend Stephen Colletti’s character, Chase. Since 2012, Kane has co-starred as Riley Perrin in the ABC Family sitcom “Baby Daddy” until the end of its run in 2017.
