Supporting Our Educators – Local teachers share wish lists for the upcoming school year
It’s no secret that working in education is challenging, but ask any teacher what they would rather do, and you will be hard pressed to find many that will say a different profession. Teaching is a calling. It is one of the greatest professions and one that I admire greatly as a mother. As parents we are our children’s first teachers, and we do our best to love, protect and guide them as much as we can, but there is a point in every child’s life where they learn to trust, respect and learn from another adult—their school teacher. Our educators spend hundreds, if not thousands, of their own dollars on the much-needed supplies they use in the classroom to inspire, educate and encourage our children to grow. We all know dollars and cents count. We work hard for them, and so do our local teachers.
“As a teacher, simple supplies and materials sustain every day learning for my students. Frequently, basic school supplies are purchased by teachers like myself in order to provide every student with what they need to complete assignments and projects. It can become very expensive to replenish these supplies throughout the year, but we will always provide what is necessary to help our students succeed.” – Chelsea Figueroa
With that being said, we wanted to do our part in asking to help support our teachers, educators, administrators and coaches! In this monthly column we will share local teacher classroom wish lists. These lists include some of the many items our teachers are purchasing with their own money after their supplies for the year have run out. With class sizes growing yearly, and budgets retracting faster than they can be replenished it is the time we step up and help out. Our wish and hope is that the next time you are at the store, you could kindly add one or two items to your shopping list and consider donating to one of these great teachers below. The teachers’ emails are included so you may contact them directly, or you can email us at editorial@santaclaritamagazine.com to find out how you can help.
