Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley- Improving the Lives of Women through Service, Advocacy and Awareness – August 2018
Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) members attending the Club’s yearly planning meeting recommended venues to raise funds that support grant and scholarship awards at the Annual Awards Event held yearly in May; members were also tasked to charter the Club’s course for the next Zonta year from June 1, 2018 through May 31, 2019. Under the direction of President Debra Blakely on June 23, round table discussions were held on fundraising ideas and community service projects, among other important aspects of club involvement.
Fun and informative fundraising events will be offered to include Lunafest in the fall of 2019. This event is a salute to women filmmakers, and Women in Service, Zonta’s signature event honoring amazing women who volunteer in our community. Zonta has again been selected as the recipient of proceeds from the 2019 Sierra Pelona Valley Wine Festival. New and exciting fundraising venues will also be considered.
Existing services will continue that empower women through the LifeForward Workshops and the community awareness of the Red Dress Project, a haunting reminder of those victims in the SCV who have died from domestic violence. A host of other service ideas will be investigated by ad hoc committees. These will include the possibility of mentoring newly emancipated foster care girls, helping senior women navigate their medicare/medical allocations, and a host of other worthwhile service ideas.
Debra Blakley, President, and Beth Heiserman, 1st Vice President, were then off to Yokohama, Japan for Zonta’s International Convention – June 29 through July 3 as voting delegates representing our Club in the Zonta World with locations in 66 countries.
