What’s New at College of the Canyons
We checked in with seven College of the Canyons faculty members to chat about what’s new and exciting on campus this fall, how their programs are creating career opportunities for our community members, and what future COC students can be doing now to prepare for a successful pathway into these exciting career fields.

Program Coordinator
If you’re interested in becoming a teacher, the TEACH Program at COC is here to guide you along that pathway!
TEACH is a specialized support system designed to prepare the next generation of future educators. Program organizers have partnered with leaders in the fields of early childhood education, special education, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), along with industry experts in the K-12 and CSU/UC school systems to model best practices and prepare future educators in all subject areas and specializations.
Students are provided with opportunities for career exploration including field work in a classroom setting, access to professional development workshops and conferences, and test-prep assistance prior to taking the CBEST, CSET and RICA exams. TEACH program students also receive ongoing mentor support while applying for the California Teacher Permit, as well as individualized academic advisement regarding the various academic degree and certificate options, CSU/UC transfer requirements and credential pathways. All of this is designed to help students successfully map out individualized pathways for rewarding careers as teachers.
With the state of California currently facing a significant teacher shortage, TEACH services are open to both high school and college students, as well as community members looking to enter the field of education. High school students with this goal in mind are encouraged to start their career path by exploring concurrent enrollment at COC, which allows junior and senior high school students to enroll in college courses at no cost. Individuals of all ages can also get started on the path to teaching by seeking out classroom and community volunteer opportunities, and networking with other like-minded students through the college’s Future Educators Club (FEC).
If you want to one day become a teacher, TEACH can help you get there!
