Truffles’ Birthday

Truffles turns eighteen at The Gentle Barn! Truffles was a tiny piglet at a pumpkin patch, delighting children and adults alike. But when the pumpkin patch closed down the day after Halloween, Truffles was left behind, alone, amid the rotting pumpkins and trash blowing around in the wind. Thankfully we found her and brought her home to our warm and loving barnyard to become a permanent member of our family.
Truffles was scared of us at first, but after a few days of good food, soft straw bedding, other animals for company, and lots of tummy rubs, Truffles made herself right at home. Over the last eighteen years Truffles has rolled over for belly rubs for our guests, she has always been gentle, and has even been adopted by the other pigs in the yard, sleeping on their tummies and snuggling up close for warmth. She is a beloved member of our family.
Potbellied pigs typically live to around fifteen years old, but with lots of organic fruits and veggies for nutrition, Sun Chlorella Algae Super Food to boost her immune system, and so much love, Truffles is still going strong at eighteen. She even gets acupuncture every week to keep her mobile and strong. Please come visit her, rub her belly, wish her happy birthday, and make her feel special.
The Gentle Barn is home to animals rescued from abuse and neglect, and host to school field trips, private tours, and groups of children with special needs. We are open to the public every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so you can hug cows, cuddle turkeys, give pigs tummy rubs, feed horses carrots, pet goats and sheep, and hear their stories of resilience.
