Heart Walk 2018
More than 3,000 people gathered at Bridgeport Park for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk to end heart disease and stroke on November 3. The walks in Santa Clarita and four other cities raised more than $1.5 million combined.
The Sime family walked in honor of their little heart warrior, Chase. The seven-month-old boy had open heart surgery when he was just a few weeks old to correct a congenital heart defect.
Four-year-old Jasmine Winning participated with her family two months after undergoing the third of a series of three open-heart surgeries for her heart defect.
Heart disease and stroke are the number one and number two killers in LA County. Since the first Heart Walk 25 years ago, the AHA has funded $3.4 billion in research, resulting in innovations like CPR, artificial heart valve and stents, which help save lives every day.
The Heart Walk is sponsored locally by Keck Medicine of USC, Huntington Hospital, UCLA Health and Antelope Valley Hospital.
