Valentine’s Day at Gentle Barn
The Gentle Barn rescues animals from severe abuse and neglect. Once the animals are healed and happy they are filled with so much love, that they have much love to give back to people. Once they learn that they are safe and cared for, the piggies roll over for tummy rubs, the chickens love to be held, the turkeys fall asleep in our laps, and the cows stand still for hugs. Coming to The Gentle Barn, being with the animals, and hearing their stories of resilience, is good for the soul anytime! But on Valentine’s Day while love is in the air, visiting The Gentle Barn is even more fun!
Just like humans, animals fall in love too. We have many animal couples who either came in as mates or fell in love at the barn after being rescued. Luigi the rooster came into The Gentle Barn not too long ago. The minute he met our beauty queen, Rebekah it was love at first sight and the two of them stroll the barnyard together every day. He protects her, finds choice seeds for her to eat and is very proud to be in her company. Darling and Bull Sheep were both born twins and rejected by their moms. They came in separately to the barn, but perhaps because they share the same story, they found each other and have been best friends ever since. They eat standing side by side, meditate together, and explore the barnyard jointly. Our horse Zoe and her twin brother, Lazar were inseparable; they did everything together and were fiercely protective over each other. When Lazar passed away almost a year ago, their friend Willy Wonka promised to care for her. They have since fallen in love and can be found every day grooming each other or napping in the sun with tandem smiles on their faces that only lovers understand.
Whether you bring a date, come with your entire family, or come alone to get love from the animals, the Sundays in February at the barn is wonderful. Our horse Magic will be giving out kisses and showing off to make you smile, our cows will give you the best hugs, and if you’re looking for love, The Gentle Barn is the best place to find it! See you there!
The Gentle Barn is home to animals rescued from abuse and neglect, and host to school field trips, private tours, and groups of children with special needs. We are open to the public every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so you can hug cows, cuddle turkeys, give pigs tummy rubs, feed horses, pet goats and sheep, and hear their stories of resilience.
