Dropless Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is traditionally followed by a month of eye-drops including antibiotic drops and anti-inflammatory drops to prevent infection and decrease inflammation. Many of our patients who require cataract surgery vhave physical limitations that make it difficult for them to instill the drops by themselves. In the past we have selectively used injections in certain patients that had such difficulty. Come and see if you are a candidate for this new method of surgical aftercare following cataract surgery!
We now have specially formulated medications that we can place inside the eye at the time of cataract surgery so that a patient usually does not have to use eye drops. This is a huge convenience! No more carrying around eye drops wherever you go to keep you on schedule.
Cataract surgery is now at the point where we can correct near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. We can give you the ability to both read and drive without glasses. We are in a time where cataract surgery can give you a lifetime of visual freedom. A cataract is a cloudiness of the crystalline lens inside of the eye. When the lens becomes cloudy it is an increasing source of frustration as symptoms progress. At first, a patient may experience difficulty with reading fine print or difficulty driving at night because of glare. As the cataract progresses it interferes causes halos around lights and even problems with daytime driving and reading. The whole world becomes discolored as one views everything through cataracts. The results of cataract surgery in experienced hands are so good that there is little reason to procrastinate having cataract surgery. Surgery is performed in an outpatient setting and painlessly takes less than 15 minutes to undergo.
It is important that you are aware of the full range of options available to you. If you’re considering cataract surgery, you can reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses. Imagine being able to wear non-prescription sunglasses or being able to hike or cycle without glasses. Imagine being able to drive or read without the hassle of looking for your glasses.
