Spring time
Spring time means different things to different people. To some it means the blossoming of flowers and the magical return of the butterflies. To some it means rebirth and the restart of new life. To some it means allergies. And to us at The Gentle Barn it means a lot of activity caring for our rescued animals.
With warmer temperatures our horses winter coats come off and get sent to the cleaners, while their fly masks come out of storage, dusted off, and put on to protect their eyes from the sun and flies. Stool samples get sent to our veterinarian to check for parasites. The goats, sheep, and cows’ hooves get trimmed. The sheep get sheered. Our equine dentist comes to check everyone’s teeth. The trees are once again in need of watering. And The Gentle Barn comes alive with new blossoms, bees, birds, and the sound of children’s laughter as we host school field trips every day. Come enjoy the spring with us and hug the cows, it’s beautiful here!
The Gentle Barn is home to animals rescued from abuse and neglect, and host to school field trips, private tours, and groups of children with special needs. We are open to the public every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where you can hug cows, cuddle turkeys, give pigs tummy rubs, feed horses, pet goats and sheep, and hear their stories of resilience.
