Honoring Our Teachers
SCV Education Foundation Teacher Tribute annually honors the best of the best at all of the Santa Clarita Valley’s schools. This year’s theme is Education Royalty. Here are some thoughts from the Teacher Tribute honorees from Saugus Union School District regarding that topic:
Jane Turner, Bridgeport Elementary, on how she creates “royalty” in her classroom: “I create a warm and stimulating environment that conveys my passion and enthusiasm for what I am teaching. I try to encourage open communication and free thinking so that students feel important.”
Linda Foglesong, Cedarcreek Elementary, on how she knows she has impacted her student’s lives: “They don’t give up and try their best to learn something new each day. Each of my students has a disability, so with that comes many challenges that most are unprepared to face.”
Megan Lentz, Emblem Academy, on who the “royalty in her life is: “My coworkers in the Regional Autism Program as well as my students!”
Lynn Angalet, James Foster Elementary, on how she knows she has impacted her student’s lives: “I not only see them succeed academically but also as a citizen of the world. My students have organized a canned food drive and raised money to free slaves in Africa. Recently, a former student teaching in Indonesia shared with me, that she wanted to inspire her students like I had done for her.”
Janice Elam, Charles Helmers Elementary, on how she knows she has impacted her student’s lives: “my students are excited about learning and truly know that our classroom is a safe and fun place to grow, ask questions, and be an active participant in their own education! I love seeing my students’ desire and thirst for discovery increase, and seeing them apply what they know while using the strategies and skills that they have learned to take ownership for their learning.”
